New
Queensland Certificate of Education (QCE) System
Queensland is introducing a
new QCE system starting with Year 11 students in 2019. From 2020, the
Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR) will replace the Overall Position
(OP) as the standard pathway to tertiary study for Queensland Year 12s.
Key features include of the
system include:
·
new
and redeveloped QCAA senior syllabuses
·
external
assessment in most senior subjects
· new quality assurance
processes to strengthen the quality and comparability of school-based
assessment
· changes to QCE eligibility
requirements
· the introduction of the
Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR).

In the resources section to
the right of this article, there are small videos provided by the QCAA and
Tully State High School about the changes in specific detail so parents/ carers
and students are able to understand the changes of the new senior curriculum.
At Tully State High School,
we acknowledge that there is a large amount of information about the changes in
the new senior curriculum. We openly welcome questions from our community about
these changes. The preferred method for this communication is via email to
either the Deputy Principal, Guidance Officer or Curriculum Heads of

Senior
school studies policy
The Senior School Studies policy has been developed to ensure students are successful in
their senior years at Tully State High School. It has been designed so that
students and parents understand the academic requirements of students,
including the prerequisites that need to be met for progression into Year 11
and through into Year 12 policy has been developed to ensure students are successful in

Senior
Education and Training (SET) Plan
During Year 10,
students can choose their pathway through the senior phase of
learning. To finalise their learning plans, students and their parent/guardian
will need to complete a Senior Education and Training (SET) plan interview.
SET Plans aim to help
students make important decisions about their future education,
training and employment.
The SET Plan Interviews will
take place later in the year. Parents will be informed of these dates shortly.
Year
11 and 12 curriculum
After completing Year 10,
students choose from a broader range of learning options that may lead to a:
· Senior Statement
· Queensland Certificate of
Education (QCE)
· Queensland Certificate of
Individual Achievement (QCIA)
· Tertiary Entrance Statement
(OP/ATAR eligible students)
· VET Certificate
qualification.
Subjects
All Year 11 and 12 students must
study one English and one Mathematics subject. They also choose four other
subjects to complete their Senior Selections.
For students in Year 12 in
2019, to be eligible for an Overall Position (OP), students must undertake at
least six subjects, five of which are authority subjects, over 2 years.
Students can include one authority-registered subject in their total of 6, and
still be OP-eligible.

For students in Year 12 in
2020, to be eligible for an Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR), students
must undertake at least six subjects, four of which are general subjects, over
2 years. Students can include two applied subjects in their total of 6, and
still be ATAR-eligible. In addition, to be ATAR eligible students musts pass
English.

Completing
senior study over 3 years
If a student wishes to apply
to complete their senior study over three years, a letter of application must
be written to the Executive Principal explaining all extenuating circumstances
behind the application.

Vocational
education
These include:
· school-based apprenticeships
and traineeships (SAT)
· attending registered training
organisations (RTO)
· work experience.
These are available to all
Year 11 and 12 students. In some cases, Year 10 students can access these
pathways.
