Cadets

152 ACU Tully High School Army cadets is an excellent opportunity for your child to be involved in outdoor adventure activities, such as abseiling, canoeing, first aid, topography and mapping skills, orienteering and survival skills training. The Australian Army offers students the chance to participate in their Army Cadets program for the purpose of youth development and leadership skills, and offers students two, eight day long camps held at Lavarack Barracks in Townsville per year, all costs covered by defence. The first is the Australian Field Exercise (AFX) is designed as a survival camp and students have the chance to work with over 1000 cadets from different units across North Queensland. The second camp is held in week 10 of term 4 and is a leadership course offered to cadets hoping to move up in the ranks, and get promoted, this is also held at Lavarack Barracks free of charge.

The 152 ACU cadet unit operates during term times only and parades weekly on Tuesday evening at Syramiss Hall, Tully State High School from 6.00pm to 9.00pm.

Students wishing to be involved are encouraged to contact TOOC Sophie Turner, a teacher at Tully High school or contact the 152 ACU unit leader Captain Rick Gorle on his email listed below. Alternatively, students are encouraged to simply attend a parade on a Tuesday evening and decide apply then.

To sign up students need to bring a valid form of ID such as their school ID or original birth certificate and a medicare card. Once signed up there is a small annual administration fee of $50 to cover costs, and the only other small cost is for food if and when your child attends a bivouac (overnight camp organised within the unit and nearby) held about three times per year and usually doesn't exceed $10-15 per bivouac.
