Year 10
Food Studies (Elective Subject)
Like Food Studies in the junior school, students apply design processes to produce solutions to food and food production related problems. Students explore the major nutrients, the food system and food packaging. They design solutions to problems such as an oversupply of bananas and limited food options for people with food intolerances. This subject also prepares them for hospitality based subjects in senior school, including Certificate II in Kitchen Operations and Nutrition.
Food and Fashion Studies (Elective Subject)
Food and Fashion is a new option for year 10 students. It applies the Australian Curriculum for design to introduce students to Fashion (Applied) and Kitchen Operations (Certificate) offered in year 11 and 12. Students are given project briefs and must follow a design process to develop products and solutions. They develop food preparation, cooking and sewing skills during practical lessons.
Year 11 and 12
Certificate II in Kitchen Operations
This certificate course is designed to prepare students to work in a commercial kitchen workplace. Students develop food preparation, cooking and presentation skills while preparing a variety of dishes and meals. They learn about workplace health and safety practices and procedures while applying them in practical lessons. Students also achieve a Responsible Service of Alcohol (RSA) certificate as part of the course. This course would be valuable for any student interested in the Hospitality industry.
Fashion (Applied)
Fashion explores what underpins fashion culture, technology and design. Students use their imaginations to create, innovate and express themselves and their ideas, and to design and produce design solutions in a range of fashion contexts. They develop practical skills through the product and project assessment tasks. They also investigate the fashion industry, it's history and fashion careers.
